How Hoping Can Hold You Back

Setting Goals And Taking Action

Training is the opposite of hoping ~ unknown (seen on a Nike tee shirt)Tweet That!

It’s important to have hope. Hopes and dreams help to maintain a positive attitude, and to keep our heart light and free. Unfortunately, hoping on its own just isn’t enough! You have to be taking action.

In order to reach your goals, and rise to the challenges that life throws at you, or sometimes just drops in front of you, you’re going to have to work hard, dedicating yourself to achieving your goals. You’ve heard me say it before.

Think. See. BELIEVE. Dwell. Determine.

Hoping is a passive. You’re simply wishing how you’d like things to be, or what you’d like to see happen. You’re not actually doing anything about it. Hoping is the first step toward achieving, but on its own, hoping won’t get you where you want to be. You must Dwell. You want to be setting goals and taking action.

If you’re only hoping something will happen, you need–you owe it to yourself–to take matters into your own hands. Think about what it is you want to happen. SEE it. See yourself having accomplished it. What steps did you need to take to make it happen? Now DWELL on it.

Just like on a bicycle, it all starts with one revolution of the wheel. No matter how hard the path may be, you won’t move forward if you don’t start pedaling. Each pedal stroke builds on the one before. You can make it happen by dwelling on it—consistently taking the actions necessary to achieve your goal.

You have to take action to reach your goals. Hoping for a positive outcome won’t make one happen; consistent work and effort will. Keep that in mind the next time you’re hoping for something good to happen. Dwelling can make it happen. What actions will you take?

What about those who ascribe to the Law of Attraction, such as myself? While it isn’t quite hoping, it is seeing and believing with not so much dwell and determine. With the Law of Attraction the universe brings to you, and not so much the other way around. Not trying to question your beliefs, BTW. Free will is what makes us human, afterall.

David, thanks for the comment. I don’t think we’re that far off from each other. I also believe in the Law of Attraction. However, I don’t believe we can just sit back and wait and that’s not how I interpret the Law of Attraction. Dwelling can, and often, is taking the action(s) that allow you to be open to receiving what the universe brings us. In some circumstances, the dwelling could simply be consistently putting it out to the universe. Thanks, again, for taking the time to comment. There is nothing better than open dialogue.
