A Life of Purpose

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose” ~ Robert Byrne

What are your goals? What interests do you have? What are you doing with your life? What do you want to be doing with your life? These are all important questions to ask yourself on a regular basis. Finding purpose in your life and having clearly defined goals can help you to be happy, and to live well.

Having purpose doesn’t just mean having a short term goal, though that is often part of it. It’s not about tasks. Having a life purpose means knowing deep down what you want to be doing with your life, and taking action steps toward it. A lot of people have a real passion for some craft or skill that they never spend time with. If that skill can be profitable, think about ways to turn it into your career. If, for example, you love woodworking, spend time on the weekend building shelving, furniture, or even sculptures. Sell your work until you have the money to open your own furniture store. By working toward that purpose you’re focusing your energy on something positive.

Even if your passion can’t be turned directly into profit, you can still focus your energy on it. No matter what you do for a living, you can always make time to pursue the things you enjoy. Instead of letting yourself get bogged down with work, keep your focus on what you’re passionate about, and let that be your life purpose. If your work isn’t your passion, think of it as a means to an end. Think of your work as a tool to help you reach your purpose.

Finding your life purpose will help drive you through life. Think about what you enjoy, what you want to do, and what you need to do in order to make it possible to follow your passions. That might mean dedicating time each week to the things you’re passionate about, and it might mean setting aside money. Still, having purpose in your life is easily worth the investment of time and money. Remember that as you go through life, and try to find your purpose. Once you do, your life will be changed for the better. No matter what the cost, getting clarity around your purpose and taking action to pursue your passions will help to ensure your journey has you feeling energized and happy. What is it that really stokes your fire and leaves you feeling energized when you make the time to make it happen?
